Using "would"and singular or plural.

When stating something without the if clause, but using it's meaning, will I use would or will? Here are examples how I would use them:

-Finding a gem would be great.(saying that if I were to find a gem, it would be great)

Another question is whether to use singular or plural when after combing nouns using "and". I was reading a book, and I saw the author use singular when after using two nouns with "and":

-"The objective and goal is to reach for the skies."

(saying that if I were to find a gem, it would be great) Correct. If that's the type of clause you're omitting, use 'would'. Anonymous I saw the author use singular when after using two nouns with "and" Sometimes a writer or speaker will think of two things as so very closely associated that when stated together they form a single idea in his mind.

That's fine. "Would" is a modal auxiliary for possibility. If you are certain that you will find a gem, then use "will."
