Using which

Hi,

I have a doubt on using which for a different purpose than the usual. For instance: If he didn't go, he'd lose his job, and the very possibility upset him.
Instead of this, can we use which: If he didn't go, he'd lose his job, which possibility upset him.
Christianity was all about sin, which idea upset him.

b) They appeared as sounds instead of as sights. (as we say 'appeared as', must it be followed by 'instead of as'?)

c) Since the words cognition and fluency are uncountable, I am assuming we say: such cognition, such fluency instead of 'such a cognition, such a fluency.' I assume the article 'a' can be avoided.

Thanks.

Thanks. Regarding b, is it always the case, regardless of tense and all that? Is it the same for rather than as well: It would have appeared as sounds rather than sights. (without as).
