Using "when" not sure which tenses to use?

How do you write this? Which tense to use?

She put her hand there just as I was about to sit down.

She put her hand there when I was about to sit down.

She put her hand there when I was going to sit down.

When using "when" is it followed by the simple tense, continuous and proceeded by the past simple or continuous.

When to use continuous or simple, can you give me examples?

She put her hand there just as I was about to sit down. This is the most likely. None of the second group seem natural.
