Using thus in a sentence...

Hi,

I often use thus or therefore in sentences and wondered about correct punctuation - is there some way this sentence could be improved and are there any useful rules for there future use?

"We also found that the combined dining and lounge area, which many residents frequent, was impersonalised and unchanging thus providing no new stimulation to conversation for residents, staff or their visitors."

Thanks Emotion: embarrassed

You could improve your sentence this way: We also found that the combined dining and lounge area, which many residents frequent, was impersonal and unchangi ng, providing no new stimulation to conversation for residents, staff or visitors. As for 'thus' and 'therefore', punctuation depends on overall structure: I am tired, thus irritable. I am tired; thus, I must cancel our dinner.
