Using 'then' in instructions

In English is it better to use 'then' when writing instructions e.g. Draw a house and then colour it in.

Really this is just the author's choice, and you can't say one form is "better" than the other. I would avoid repeated use of "then" in a long list of instructions, though. It could become obtrusive.
