Would the following senentce be deemed acceptable: Mike looks in the pouch, then slowly shows it to Jack.

There are many grammarians who believe that a pause in the flow merits a comma. My best instruction is that no comma is needed unless the subject changes or repeated (perhaps even with a conjunction)
