Using the word "swear"

How to use the word "swear" for "God", Bible, or any other entity that is considered holy?

What preposition is used please?

Top answer

You can "swear to ***" and "swear on the Bible" -- those are the expressions that come to mind -- but it would be better if you could provide a complete sentence to make it clearer exactly what meaning you are trying to achieve.

'I swear to *** that I'm telling you the truth.'

'I swear on the Bible that I'm not lying.'

I swear by all that's holy that I am an honest man.'
