Using the word "of"

Hello everyone,

In general, what does it mean to say "X of Y?" When one says such a thing, what relationship does the word "of" create between X and Y?

For instance, what does it mean to say "terms of belief?"

"of" indicates a relation between the two nouns. So in your example, it expresses "terms related to/belonging to belief"
or "customs of Christmas" you can interpret it as "customs related to Christmas."
