Using the word "kind"

Hello. I'm reading some class notes and have found the sentence "And there’s this other kind people have written about ...". I'm confused about the use of the word "kind", because seems to me "kind people" here means "friendly, nice", but the meaning author gives is "a class of people". I think the right sentence be: "And there’s this other kind OF people WHO have written about ...". Am I right? Thanks!
