Using the pronoun "He or She"

Is it proper or improper grammar, in a conversation to use “he or she" when the person is there beside you.

Top answer

The grammar can't be argued with, but the etiquette is egregious - unless the person is a little baby and you don't know its ***.

Or do you mean saying "Is she coming to dinner with us?" when "she" is right here? Also not a matter of grammar, but one of etiquette.

As our British friends about "Who is "she"? The cat's mother?"
