Using the definite article and Surname theory

Hi!

Which one is correct? Is more than one of these grammatical? Why? Thanks in advance!

1. To calculate the polarization, we employ Maxwell theory.
2. To calculate the polarization, we employ Maxwell's theory.
3. To calculate the polarization, we employ the Maxwell theory.
4. To calculate the polarization, we employ the Maxwell's theory.

[The] Maxwell['s] theory is something well defined, i.e., every physicist knows precisely one object that s/he would call [the] Maxwell['s] theory.

Thank you for the answer, but what is the rule here? Is there some reference, so that I understand this thing and never repeat this mistake again? Thanks again!
