Using the Correct Tense

Which of the following is correct?
A. I didn't know there was an event happening on Thursday.
B. I didn't know there will be an event happening on Thursday.
Thursday is a day in the future. I think it's A because of the need for parallelism ("did" and "was") but I'm not entirely certain since the pertinent Thursday hasn't passed by yet.

Top answer

A. B. I didn't know there will be an event happening on Thursday.

  • A.
  • B.
  • I didn't know there will be an event happening on Thursday.
  • Both are OK, but A is the native choice—or if Thursday has not passed, then: C .
  • I didn't know there is an event happening on Thursday.
