Using present tense

Teacher, I am not sure if I should change the tense to past tense. I am still confused about reported speech.Thank you.

Dan's father requested that we speak with his son after August 2nd as he is now attending a course in Beijing and will return to Hong Kong on August 1st. He said he wants to be present when we speak to his son regarding the insurance policy.

or

He said he wanted to be present when we spoke to his son regarding the insurance policy.
