Using present participle correctly

"In a prior incident where I tried to commit suicide, one of the paramedics who arrived at the scene carelessly exposed my and my family’s personal information to the neighbors, saying things like a hypochondriac tried to kill herself. "

IN the sentence above, I used the present participle "saying" to indicate one of the things the paramedic told the neigherbors.

I just want to know how well the usage of "saying" fits into the overall structure and look of the sentence.

Does it sound OK or need corrections?

Thanks.
