using phrase ''according to me''

0 I have been hearing the phrase ''01i00according to me02i00'' since long time. I have also been using it for quite a long time. I take its meaning same as ''01i00in my opinion02i00'' or as ''01i00I think02i00''. But lately it came to my notice that it's wrong to use this phrase. Then I google it, and there were results from sources such as Washington Post and Bloomberg. 01b01font00What do you think?02font02b00 0-

0 I personally never use the phrase 01i 00according to me02i 00. It sounds odd to my ear. 02br 02br 01i 00 according to me02i 00 is more often seen right after the naming of a topic or subject matter, and there it means as I explain/understand/see it.

1i00According to me02i00 can be said to have the same meaning with 01i00in my opinion02i00 and 01i00I think02i00 but it seems more formal to me. Can you tell me why did you think it is wrong? Did you find any source pointing out that it is wrong to use? Can you share them with us?0-

0My teacher in Italy (who is British) always marked "according to me" wrong. The reason was that in the dictionary you find (among other meanings, such as "depending on") that it means "as stated by..." See, for instance, Cambridge or M-W. Would you say "as stated by me?" [*-)] 02br

1b01font00If you know French well, you might be thinking of 01i00selon moi02i00, a direct translation of "according to me". It isn't used in English. 02font02b02br

There is nothing wrong with "according to me". It makes total sense. However it is rarely seen or heard in British English and so it seems strange to native British English speakers and probably Americans too. But people from India say "according to me".

On the other hand "according to John", for example, is absolutely fine and very common.

You also wrote "since long time".
