Using past participle.

"In the post-independence era riddled with social unrest, ~~~~."

I am not sure whether using the past participle "riddled" and what follows it to modify the era was appropriate.

Does the whole phrase scan well? or Does it sound a bit off?

Thanks.

It should be either: "In a post-independence era riddled with social unrest....", or, "In the post-independence era, an era riddled with social unrest..."
