using of

Hi, this is my first time here and i'd like to ask about using "the" after "of"
is it necessary to use it after "of"
eg: should i say "we suffer from the lack of food ""
or"from lack of food"
or "from the lack of the food"
and also is there a diffrence between "the king of kings"
and "the king of the kings"
thanks a lot

"food", for example, is generic. "the food" is some specific instance of food that you are talking about. The same is true of "kings" vs "the kings".
