Using "may" in sentences

Hi,

What is the difference between these sentences please?

A: You may don't need that tool.

B: You may not need that tool.

I meant, is using "may don't" incorrect? I have no rule in mind to show that it's incorrect grammatically.

Top answer

Only B is correct. May is a modal auxiliary and must be followed by an infinitive. Don't isn't an infinitive.
