Using makes/lets and cause/reason

Hello,
Can someone give me an advice for following sentences?

1) We don't like the manager. He ...... us do all the donkey work for the company.
A)makes B)lets
I think its A because he doesn't let them much opportunities, otherwise it would be B but I'm not sure!

2)Does anyone know what the ...... of the argument was? There is no ....... that it should be kept from me.
A)Cause B)reason
Here i would say first A and second B but I don't know what the difference between cause and reason is at all.

Suppose you want to do something. You think that maybe I don't want you to do it. But you ask me and you say "please", and I say it's all right for you to do it.
