Using it or their for a person

Hi...

Usually when I write the word person in my essay, I use both he/she. For example, If a person write his/her homework... etc

Can I use it or their instead of he/she for person "single"

Thank you...

No, it isn't used to refer to a person except in some idiomatic contexts. " Some people use it to refer to a baby, but a baby's parents wouldn't do that. CB

No, it isn't used to refer to a person except in some idiomatic contexts. For example, if someone knocks on your door, you may ask: "Who is it?" Some people use it to refer to a baby, but a baby's parents wouldn't do that.
