Using 'is' or 'are'

When using the name of a company, my colleague always writes :

"CH are recognised as a service provider of excellence and have considerable construction experience."

I feel that the bolded words should read 'is' and 'are' as it is one company and not a string of companies.

Am I incorrect and can companies be referred to as above?

H E L P P L E A S E ??

Many thanks.

Regards

Gail
