Using Hyphen to reduce word count

Hello hello,

I am currently writing my dissertation, well I have pretty much finished it and need to cut down some words.

I get slightly confused by the use of the hyphen so am just posting to ensure that my use of it is correct according to english grammar.

Are the following uses of the hyphen correct?

Firstly I have used service-user, referring to patient, this is the politically correct term these days when referring to patients/clients etc. I am pretty sure this one is fine but just wanting to check

Recurrent-depression, acute-depression, chronic-depression

randomized-controlled trial
