Using expression "small talk"

Can someone please tell me if the expression "make small talk" sounds good here or should I say "small talk conversation" (if there is such a thing) :
Sara has many friends from her childhood. She visits them from time to time and they make small talk.

Anna - Your sentence is fine. Small talk, as someone else mentioned, means a small, friendly conversation. Sometimes Americans like to use the term "chit-chat".
