Using definite article

Hi there,

I just need to know why is it wrong to use a definite article (a) in the following sentence.

"There is (a) huge agrarian distress due to drought in many parts"

distress i n an uncountable noun. eg We can't say three distresses . We don't use the or a with uncountable nouns.
