Using "calm down" with a dog

Hi

Can we use "calm down" for a dog that's barking incessantly? Do you find this sentence OK?

Hey, I think you need to calm your dog down.

Thanks,

Tom

It's okay. Depending on your level of irritation: Could you get him to stop that, please? See if you can get him to calm down, would you?

Quite possible, but I prefer not to say anything. Just slip the dog "a bitter pill" some day when no one's looking.
