using "by + gerund" in a passive

Hi,
I would like to change this sentence into passive: " We measured the amplitude by calculating the RMS value"
Is this correct?: " the amplitude is measured by calculating the RMS value"
I know that in a passive 'by' is used to indicate the agent, but I don't know if it can be also used as in the sentence ('calculating the RMS value' is not the agent but the means of measuring)
Thank you in advance!

: " the amplitude is measured by calculating the RMS value" You need to use past tense. I know that in a passive 'by' is used to indicate the agent, but I don't know if it can be also used as in the sentence ('calculating the RMS value' is not the agent but the means of measuring) Yes, it can.
