Using 'as well as' at the start of a sentence

Hello

I read somewhere a few days ago 'As well as an oppontunity to socialise with classmates, a reunion also gives you a chance to share memories....'.

Is it ok to use 'as well as' at the beginning of a sentence? If it is, please could you give me a few examples. Also, is this kind of usage fairly modern or is it informal/ casual?

Thank you so much!

Yes, that is standard contemporary English. You already have one good example. If you google the phrase, you will find many more.

Thank you, that's really helpful. Here is another exapmle:

As well as being a good co-worker, Tom was also a good friend.

Thanks
