Using as

Salaam again!

Djinn was torturing me with a few more doubts, for example, metaphorical statements with as: As the world was more or less a prison, the poor were the prisoners and the rich were the guards. (since the world is not prison etc., must we necessarily use 'if' statements to show that these are unlikely scenarios?)

2) She could distinguish between X and Y.
She could distinguish X from Y. (are both forms okay?)
