Uses of "the"

can someone explain to me where we sue "the" and where we don't.

Example -1 : I’m going to the store.
Example - 2 : He went to Italy.

In example 1, why we use "the" with "store" and in example 2, why we didn't use "the" with Italy?

Store is a common noun and the use of the article seems to imply that the person goes to a specific store. Either a or the is usually required with singular common nouns, but there are countless exceptions to the rule. Italy is a proper noun, the name of a country, and even though many proper nouns do take the definite article, very few countries do unless the name is in the plural: the Philippines, the Netherlands, the United States.
