Uses of should

Hi, I'm studying english grammar on my own and I have doubts:
1) It's essential that everyone should be here on time
2) It's essential that everyone is here on time.

Are both correct? Because I would use the second one and it's the first time I see this use of should. Thanks!

  • Using '(should) be' is more formal and in olden days was the required form to use after 'it is essential/required/suggested/commanded/etc.
  • ' Nowadays, #2 (with 'is') is also widely used and accepted.
