Used to/simple past?

Hi! everyone.Could you tell me which is right to use here?
Scenario-My friend posted(on facebook) a saying from Adolf hitler regarding love. I read it and commented "I didn't believe him to say something about love before I read this post"
Is simple past(colored) right here?or I should use "I used not to believe him to say something about love before I read this post"
Thanks!

I would never have believed he had said anything about love before I read this post . Do not use 'used to' unless it was your habit to think about what Hitler said.

Hi silak12,

Here is a more natural way of saying it:
"I didn't believe that he spoke about love until I read this post."

The simple past tense is correctly used here. See the following link to review the simple past tense.
