Which is the correct sentence? I think the second is correct because an MP3 can not listen.
I think that the second sentence sounds terrible. In the first sentence, the MP3 does not listen, listening is what it is used for.

Both are acceptable. In English the instrument does not have to be able to do what the gerund says.

A glass can be used for drinking water. = A glass can be used (for a person) to drink water. = A person can use a glass for the purpose of drinking water. [A glass cannot drink, but that does not matter. The sentence is correct.]
