Used to go & would go

These two sentences:

When I was a little boy, I used to go to the beach every summer.

When I was a little boy, I would go to the beach every summer.

Can be used interchangeably?

If not, Why? What's the difference?

Top answer

Yes, they are interchangeable. The would do form for past habit is gradually disappearing from the language, and is already beginning to sound a bit old-fashioned or poetic.
