used to for habits

hi everyone. used to is often applied to the habits that existed in the past but are no longer our habits . if there is a habit in the past that continues up to now what should we use here. present simple or something else?thanks for your help.

We normally use a present perfect for this:

I have smoked 20 cigarettes a day since I was 15.
