Used to

I know we use adverbs of frequency after the verb 'be', but what about when we have 'used to' e.g.

"I used to be always late for school."? Do we still use adverbs of frequency after 'be'?

vahabbayani I always used to be a lways late for school. Yes, you use adverbs of frequency after the verb "be", but not when "be" is not the main verb in the sentence. "used" is the verb you should be concentrating on.

  • vahabbayani I always used to be a lways late for school.

  • When there is only one main verb (no auxiliaries) and it's not a form of "be", the adverb of frequency goes before the main verb.
  • Therefore, the sentence (as corrected above) is completely normal as far as adverb placement goes.
