USED TO

hello,
Could you please help me with the question below:
"He moved to Paris from New York. He doesn't live in New York any more"
Which following way is used to rewrite the sentences without changing the meaning?
1. He used to live in New York.
2. He used to move to Paris.
I myself know that (1) is correct. But is (2) possible? Can I have your explanation?
Thanks in advance.

Top answer

#1 is correct. #2 is incorrect; "used to" describes habitual actions or states in the past; not a single past event.

He used to live in New York is the right answer here.

Now, when in Paris, he may say I'm beginning to get used to living in Paris/I'm used to living in Paris.
