Used or is used

1. He used to write programmes.

2. He is used to writing programmes.

I hope both of the sentences are fine and the second one means even today he is able to write programmes.

Please tell me if I am wrong.

- In the past, he wrote programmes.


2. He is used to writing programmes.
- This sentence implies that he has written a lot of programmes, therefore he is (used to)/(familiar with) writing programmes.

That is just coming from a native american-english speaker. =P
One who hasn't actually studied his own language.

"He used to write programmes." implies something done in the past.

He is used to writing programmes implies that writing programmes is something 'he' is accustomed to doing. Something the person does on a regular basis. He may continue to do so today.
