Use reported speech

if 2 persons are talking to each other..one says i like icecream..the other person after some time would say to him... YOU TOLD ME THAT U LIKED ICREAM....OR....YOU TOLD ME that U LIKE ICECREAM...i think the 1st one is correct bt i hav seen many times people say in present tense. i am confuse about the correct one.please help me in this, thanks.
