Use present perfect in instructions?

Hi. Would it be correct to use present perfect tenses as part of sentences that come in between steps or as a final step sentence? I think I heard people saying the present perfect is not used in instructions. I also think I saw a response post in this forum saying that (that is, it shouldn't be used in instructions).

Do you think the present perfect tenses are correctly used here?

1. Read two or three short-volume novels and write a book report on one you read/have read.

2. Have the groups put all the coins they have into a can. Then appoint a person to count all the coins that was collected/have been collected to make a bar chart.

Top answer

Present perfect is fine in both of those instances. 'Read' and 'were collected' actually sound slightly less appropriate to me.
