Use past tense to talk about hypothetical situations in the future

I found the following sentence in a movie. The context is there is a boy who do not like to fly and the girl tell him the following sentence. In fact, I cannot understand the grammar associated with the following sentence. I mean, could someone please let me know why they has used "had" instead of "have" in the second half of the sentence.

I would make sure you had a good flight.

Because it is talking about a hypothetical/imagined event. (Sometimes called "unreal past".)
