Use participle or no participle in adjectives

Hi,
I sometimes wonder if I should use a participle in an adjective or not. And to add to that confusion, sometimes I don't know which version is more used, the one with the particple or the one without.

a two-tiered, pagoda-shaped roof

If I made it into this, would you think it is not OK?

a two-tier, pagoda-shape roof

Top answer

Two-tier is a viable alternative because a tier is also a countable object, but '-shape ' does not work. These are OK: a two-tiered, pagoda-shaped roof a two-tier, pagoda-shaped roof .
