Use of youth and youths
Which one should be used when the young people in a large body are asked to read a book for the summer and convene to discuss it later in a group? Or can both be correct?
Youth are asked to read this book for the summer reading program.

Hi, In my experience, the word 'youth/youths' is used more often by the media, eg in newpapers, than it is everyday English. I'd say something like 'young people', 'students in grades 7 and 8'. Best wishes, Clive

In my experience, the word 'youth/youths' is used more often by the media, eg in newpapers, than it is everyday English.
I'd say something like 'young people', 'students in grades 7 and 8'.

I would like to add to what Clive said.
1. Journalists often refer to young men as youths, especially when they are reporting that the young men have caused trouble.
...gangs of youths who broke windows and looted shops...
2. N-PLURAL
The youth are young people considered as a group.
He represents the opinions of the youth
