Hi, I have a question about how to use would. The only use I know is when we use a conditional sentence, starting with an If. But in this context, why did he use would instead of the past tense? Thank you.
Usually my actual essay follows a similar structure. I’d very clearly summarize my points without being flowery. I identified the core assumptions made by either position. If I needed to argue for/against an issue, I’d show where the opposing viewpoint was partially correct. Then I’d provide additional variables/perspectives/examples the opposing viewpoint didn’t consider and explain why it strengthens my viewpoint.
This text is an inconsistent or muddled mixture of tenses, so it isn't clear. At least some of the "would"s may be intended to refer to regular/habitual action in the past, but it's hard to be sure. On an unrelated point, it seems in the last sentence as if "it" should read "these".
