Use of would

1.If I were a doctor i would help people(present)
2. If i hadn't been there you would have been killed(past)
These or conditions
But i was confused when i was watching game of thrones series where ser bereston says.
Reaghar (name of character) liked to sing. He would pick a cornor and then he would sind.
Now here why he is using 'would' like we use it in present conditional despite he is talking about past.

rashid rajal He would pick a cornor and then he would sind. I suppose you mean "He would pick a corn e r and then he would sin g ", though I am not sure exactly what "pick a corner" refers to here. Anwyay, this is not a conditional sentence.

Would is used in that sentence to indicate a past habit or characteristic. It is similar in meaning to used to. This is not a conditional sentence.
