Use of word in sentence

Hi teachers,

Are these sentences correct?

I would like to invite you for lunch in appreciation to all of your effort and assistance during my graduate studies.

I would like to invite you for lunch as a way of appreciation to all of your effort and assistance during my graduate studies.


Also, if they can be improved please show me.

The second one has an additional problem. It's not "as a way of appreciation"; it's "as a way of showing my appreciation".
