Use of 'Well,'

I want to start a sentence after I've quoted a text. In this quote 2 options are described. So, the next sentence comments on this quote, and explains that only 1 of the options applies.

I've thought about using: Well, since...... this and that, only this......
But I'm not sure if 'Well' is a good word to start a sentence, or if it is formal enough. Can someone help me?

Ok.
The quote is about the long-term effect of investing in something. This effect is long-term if the production function is of a particular form.

"Well, since this production function is not of that form, it will not have a long-term effect."

I wanted to use a word like 'well' in this context.
