Use of was

Is this sentence correct by rules:

" I was born intelligent but education runed me"

I don't have the adequate knowledge of grammar rules, will some one help me?

ruined me. I think the sentence is correct. There are two sentences joined together by the conjuction ' but ' I = subject was = verb to be born = adj intelligent = adj but = conjunction eduction = subject ruined = verb me = object
