Use of 'warm' and 'apply heat to'

Hi

Are these sentences natural English? I assume the use of warm in such context works only in British English.

  1. My foot had been hurting badly. It was only after I applied heat to it, the pain subsided.
  2. My foot had been hurting badly. It was only after I warmed it, the pain subsided.

Thanks,

Tom

My foot had been hurting badly. It was only after I warmed it that the pain subsided.

As amended, the sentences are OK, though to me (BrE speaker) it seems faintly unu
