Use of "walking distance"

Hi, everybody

Can I say a phrase such as:

1. I live withing walking distance to work
2. I work withing walking distance to home

Thank you in advance !

Hi, just from common usage, I would say, either way would be okay, but I would us "of work" or "of home" rather than "to work" or "to home". The "of" sounds like what is mostly used.

Yes, the construction is always: "within ... (distance/space) ... of ...."

"Within the walls of York city."

"Within hearing distance (earshot) of him."

"Within the bounds* of reality."

*I think "bounds" is an abbreviation of "boundaries". It's one of those phrases we native speakers use without thinking!
