Hi

He told us variegated jokes on the way.
Variegated leaves/bricks/walls
Her variegated T-shirts
We made variegated observations about the village during our 4-day stay.
I lived with people of variegated nationalities in that hostel. There were Indians, Egyptians, Pakistanis, British and many more.

Thanks,

Tom

Outside horticulture and perhaps fishing, one would not likely hear this word. Few people use or understand it. In a lecture with a devoted audience, it might be understood.

In the US today, the adjective "variegated" is typically used only in a botanical sense: variegated roses, variegated leaves. It would not be used with nouns like: jokes, bricks, walls, t-shirts, orbservations, nationalities, etc.
